FINALLY SOME SNOW
Now I can take my tractor out and have some fun. I think the are predicting 12" to 18" near me. I hope its 18" so I can use this baby to move some snow!
I really do need a better winter hobby

FINALLY SOME SNOW
I've always said snow is for playing. I look fwd to lots of snow to play in.
Some people might think someone is a little off when they jump for joy to go and play in snow. Slide down hill on it, push it around, blow it, slide down it some more...
We're only getting a inch or so of it here but already have 6+ on the ground from a week ago, Lake effect stuff.

FINALLY SOME SNOW
We just got some snow as well. I was pretty disappointed, they were calling for up to 18" and we first got about 6" then it rained a little and then we ended up with about 10". First snow for my new 7800. I was too lazy to go put the chains on it. Didn't even need the chains,the R-4 tires push right on through it. Even helped out two of my neighbors, used it to build a snowman with my little girl, and made her a huge pile of snow to play with, oh and I plowed the driveway!!!! I'm ready for some more!!!! I just used the FEL, but thought about using box blade too. Anybody use a box blade to move snow???? I'm gonna have a few holes to patch in the gravel drive as I am still getting used to the FEL!!!

FINALLY SOME SNOW
I use the box scarifiers in the spring to break up my snow pack turned to ice. It also does a pretty good job of picking up ice chunks. For snow I think a box doesn't hold enough to make it really good for snow removal and it'd be more difficult to dump to the side as I do with a loader. Going backwards a box would with the top-link shortened would work similar to a blade that isn't angled. Snow would mostly come off each end. I have heard of them used in city parking lots for pulling snow from between cars. The idea is that it won't push snow under the cars.
I put a few divots in the gravel with my loader every year. It won't do that if it's used in float with the bucket rolled back, but in wet snow the bucket ends up floating on top of snow pack and doesn't pick up much. Generally I get impatient and want to shave down the pack a bit by having the bucket blade cut some. It usually digs in at some point and takes up some gravel. The easiest fix is just stop and dump the bucket and then back-drag the pile back over the divot with a bit of down pressure so it compacts.

FINALLY SOME SNOW
Well we got about 16-18" of snow between last night and today. I found the FEL to be perfectly good for clearing the snow . Not as neat or fast as a truck plow but good enough. A truck NEVER would have gotten into some of the work in the fields that I did anyway. On asphalt in float I was almost as quick as a plow, on gravel I adjusted manually and left a few inches of snow. No problem, only my 4 x 4 travels the gravel anyway.
I plowed the following at my place with the FEL
1. 150' asphalt driveway
2. 200' gravel drive
3. 500' trailt hrough the horse pasture to the woods.
In addition I cleared an area about 100' by 100' near the horse shed and I did 3 neighbors driveways. I was out moat of the day "playing"
Not a bad first snow workout for the tractor!

FINALLY SOME SNOW
20" and still snowing hard,winds are gusting 40 mph. The snow bank at the end of my drive has got to be five feet!
I went out at 4 AM and plugged in my new 7500 with a 54"
3pth blower.
I was thinking I went a little overboard with this tractor,
but this morning I hope it's big enough !! Where's my cab?
Nothing like a blizzard to try something new.
